Goodread’s Review: Me Before You
Goodread’s Rating: 4.29/5
Author: Jojo Moyes
Genre: Romance, Chick Lit, Contemporary
My Rating: 4/5
It is one of those books that was super hyped about and I was reluctant to read it. But then I simply gave in. I expected this book to draw me in immediately. It didn’t. It took some time for me to get invested into the story. And I was totally expecting for a cheesy, done to death ending. But ooh boy ! Was I wrong.
Lou Clark is a girl living a simple, ordinary life in a small town in England. After she loses her job, she starts working for a quadriplegic man. This completely changes her life, how she thinks, how she lives. She starts seeing the world and the things she has missed out on.
Will makes Lou see the world in a different way. He introduces her to the endless possibilities that await her. He makes her into something more than what she believes herself to be. He brings out the Louisa she really is. You see her bloom like a beautiful Red Rose out of a tiny green bud.
I wanted this book to move me. And I kept waiting for that magical moment when I would fall in love with both the characters. That didn’t happen till I reached the end. The ending just blew me away. I fell flat to how everything was written in the end. I think that this might be my favourite ending of any book I have ever read.
The title makes perfect sense at the end. *hats off to Jojo Moye* Well done !
This was more of Lou’s story when I wanted it to be more of Will’s story. It was from her perspective so you don’t really get to read how Will feels. This was the only drawback for me. Because I loved Will. I understood his actions and the decisions he takes.
“Push yourself. Don’t settle. Just live well. Just live.”
“I will never, ever regret the things I’ve done. Because most days, all you have are places in your memory that you can go to.”
“Some mistakes… Just have greater consequences than others. But you don’t have to let the result of one mistake be the thing that defines you. You, Clark, have the choice not to let that happen.”
I love the trailer. I mean, absolutely adore it. I am not a fan of romantic movies but this one I cannot wait to see. Such perfection ! *sigh*
